Through dramatic reenactments and actual surgical footage, SAVING LIFE AND LIMB documents the stories of individuals who survived unimaginable injuries through the perfect combination of quick emergency response, surgical excellence and personal courage.

EPISODE 1:

- During a car crash Justin was impaled by a six-foot pole that went through the windshield, through him and through the seat. To save his life, rescuers transported him to the hospital with the pole still in place!

- Wayne was attacked by an alligator that bit his arm right off. Through ingenious harvesting of skin and muscles from other parts of his body, Wayne's arm has been reconstructed.

- Tim fell face first into the rotating blades of a lawn mower. His face was literally sheared off. When he stumbled next door for help, his neighbor didn't even recognize him. It took 20 surgeries to construct a new face for Tim.

- In a car crash caused by a drunk driver Steve suffered a severe burn to the face and chest. His doctor rebuilt his nose, chin, and cheeks applying everything plastic surgery has to offer.

- Ten-year-old Sheridan's right arm was torn from his body in a car accident. After a dramatic rescue doctors managed to reattach his arm. Sheridan has endured 20 surgeries in a year and a half.

- Phillip's hand was cut off at the wrist in an accident at a sawmill. Racing against time and severe weather, rescuers struggled to get him to the nearest trauma surgeons in time for a successful reattachment.

- Jerry lost his hand in a fireworks explosion. Since that time he's lived his life with a hook as a hand. Now, surgeons propose to replace Jerry's hook with a “donor” hand in a revolutionary procedure - a hand transplant.

- Kenric lost his thumb in an accident with a gun. His surgeon gave Kenric a new thumb in an unusual surgery that removed his big toe and replanted it on his hand.
