TRANSGENDER TEENS- (1 x 50 minutes)

What am I ... a boy or a girl?” A transgender person perceives their body to be one sex, while their brain says they are the opposite sex. It is called gender dysphoria, and it is a birth condition.

TRANSGENDER TEENS tells the story of two transgender teenagers and the people who help them live with their identity.

Sadaisha was born as a male, but now wants to live as a female. She lives on the streets of West Hollywood, and makes ends meet working as a prostitute. Rejected by her family, she must try to survive on her own.

Katrina was also born a boy but from a very young age she felt she really was a girl. Katrina lives at home near San Francisco with her mother. She is supported by her family and receives counseling to help her transition.

Both teenagers struggle for acceptance and understanding. As we follow them from day to day, we meet the social workers in the transgender community who offer guidance and support.

Alexis is a smart, funny, attractive 24-year-old caseworker who counsels transgender teens - a topic she knows well. Alexis was born a boy. However, she is one of the lucky ones. Thanks to the support of her family and her persistent determination, she now leads a successful life.

Lavonna is an outreach worker, helping teens get off the street. She also was born a boy. In her early teens Lavonna tried to deal openly with her situation. When she took a female name and began dressing and living as a girl her parents forced her to leave her home. Luckily, she was able to turn her life around.
